Dog Days are Over

As most of you know, my grandmother passed away in February.  While that topic will get its own article, this one needed a little back story.  After her passing my whole family was going through a really rough patch.  Jon and I thought it would be therapeutic for us to get a dog.  I was originally looking for a miniature shih tzu.  Taylor, my cousin ran an animal shelter and she called us and said that she had a dog that she thought would be perfect for us.  When she showed us the pictures online, I will admit I was pretty sceptical.  The first thing I noticed about the scruffy little dog was her numerous distended nipples.  In fact, I told her right off, if we get this dog, we are naming her Nipples.  Tay explained to me that after she was spayed they would shrink.  So we agreed to go see the dog, even though I didn't think it would work since I was holding on to my shih tzu dream.  But when we walked into the shelter to see her, I started to have a change of heart. She was a cute fuzz ball, and she needed a home.  She was a little bit scared of us.  Aparently, she came from New Haven (which is kind of a rougher area of CT).  Animal control was called out to find a loose dog, but while they were out there, a hispanic man asked them to take her.  She was following him around, but he denied that she was his dog.  Animal control took her.  Upon further examination, they saw that she was only about 1-3 years old, but had already had at least 3 litters.  The next day, the hispanic man called the shelter and asked to have her back.  Thankfully, they did not give her back to him.  After hearing her story, and seeing that she was sad and needed a home, we adopted her.  We named her Lola because of her Spanish history.  Lola was really scared and did not even know how to play when we first got her.  But in the 3 months since getting her, she has really come out of her shell.  She is such a sweetheart.  However, she absolutely HATES other animals.  We think there may be reasons for that from her past life.  Whenever she sees another animal, especially another dog, she goes NUTS.  I have never heard those kind of sounds come out of a dog, or anyother living creature.  It sounds like something is being killed.  She plays fetch and tug of war and can be found carrying around a PINK dog, from Victoria's Secret.  She has a good taste, lol.  Unfortunately, she is currently "vacationing" at my parents house since our landlord has threatened to fine us if we didn't get rid of her.  We are trying to buy a house so we  can get her back ASAP (more on that to come). If you want to see some pics of her, just check my facebook. My parents love her though, and take really good care of her.  Dad actually said he didn't want us to take her back when we get our house, but we really miss her so she is coming back to us soon.  Despite all of their protests, I think they may get a dog when we take their "grandog" back.
